Most days or at least 4 times a week, I get up to prep breakfast for my son. Mommy mode on 1,000! My mind is focused on making breakfast for my kiddo. It’s like tunnel vision. I wake up, fix Jeremiah’s breakfast, feed him and repeat the next morning. It’s like clock work. He’s a tubie (gets his nutrients through gastrostomy tube) so food prep is major at our house.
Do you food prep? Let me know.
Recently, there was one morning where I opened my phone, checked an email or 2 then I was instantly led to the Bible app. I started a new bible plan at the beginning of the year, but hadn’t finished it yet. I think it was an intentional delay. I’m grateful because it led me straight to this blog post! 🙌🏾 The Bible plan was titled ‘Women of the Bible You Need to Meet’. I was reading Day 10 of the plan which was about Mary & Martha. The devotional focused more on Jesus having an intimate relationship with Mary & Martha’s family and how Jesus calls us friend. When I read the focus scripture:
“Jesus and his disciples continued their journey. They arrived at a certain village. There, a woman called Martha asked Jesus to come into her home. Martha had a sister called Mary. Mary sat down near Jesus. She was listening to the things that he was teaching.”

I wanted more. So I finished the remainder of the chapter.
“Jesus and his disciples continued their journey. They arrived at a certain village. There, a woman called Martha asked Jesus to come into her home. Martha had a sister called Mary. Mary sat down near Jesus. She was listening to the things that he was teaching. But Martha was thinking to herself, ‘I cannot do all this work alone.’ So she went to Jesus. She said, ‘Master, my sister is not helping me with the work. She has left me to do it alone. You surely do not think that this is right! Tell her that she should help me!’ The Lord Jesus replied, ‘Martha, Martha, you have troubles in your mind about many things. But only one thing is really important. That is what Mary has chosen to do. Nobody will take it away from her.’”

I was recalled to a memory not long ago when I was in a small group at my church. A young lady was sharing her heart. After she was done sharing I remember encouraging her by saying, “Just stay at his feet.” We then went to the scripture and there it was…Martha was busy and distracted while Mary sat at Jesus’ “feet and heard his word.”
As I began to set up my posture of surrender & worship, I was also reminded to sit at his feet, allow him to speak, listen and obey his teachings.
Mama! If we aren’t careful, the day will chew us up and spit us out! I’ve been around the block with busyness and distractions a few times. Trust your mama friend, IT AIN’T FUN! I’m just tryna help another mama.
Make God your priority mama. Read it again. Make God your priority mama. Okay, okay. I’ll quit for now.
The shoe might not fit today and that’s okay. Just put it in your back pocket for whenever you need it. 😉
So…. How did you start your day? Like Martha or Mary? Let’s chat about it!
P.S. Happy Women’s History Month and Happy International Women’s Day!
Check out the Bible plan I mentioned to learn more about the women in the Bible! It’s a good one! If you decide to read the Bible plan, when you’re done let me know who you enjoyed reading/learning about the most.
I’m sure after reading today‘s blog, you know mine.
